Fragments: Accordion Books
Accordion books featuring lines from the poetry from Sharon Coleman, Indigo Moor and Liz McCall that was used in the porject Fog Frac/tured Pangea.
The books vary in size and number of panels and feature a hard cover.
This series of accordion books put into play two additional elements: the suturing of torn monotypes and fragments of poetic text.
The pages are made of torn monotypes on Rives BFK collaged onto other monotypes. This technique echoes the freedom of mark making and the different layers of space in the original monotypes. It also disassembles the two-dimensional space of paper.
The fragments of poetic text, sometimes half-obscured, are meant to be perceived like an animal running through the forest: you see movement, hear rustling, but nothing more—only after the animal has passed by do you have a sense that something was there.
